Motivation will come and go, motivation is fleeting and situational.
Motivation is based on your current situation. It might not last to the end of the week, end of the day, or even the end of this blog post.
This is why you must try to train your mind to be disciplined. Discipline is different to motivation as it doesn’t ‘just happen’ after reading something or seeing someone reach their goals, discipline is intentional, even when you feel unmotivated and discipline needs to be exercised everyday.
I have been feeling pretty unmotivated recently for various reasons, but here is some things you can try to combat those feelings:
- Switch up your workouts: Incorporate some different exercises into your routine, or spend some time going to the gym without a routine and do what you feel like doing. Sometimes we get caught up in a boring routine and forget that fitness should also always be fun.
- New music playlist: So simple but so effective! Download some new, upbeat songs, tune in and ignore everything else.
- List some short term goals: My short term goal for the next month is to make sure I go to the gym 4 times a week (3 full body & 1 leg day).
- Get your trainers on and get out the door: If nothing else, set your clothes out the night before, get up, throw them on and just GO!
At the end of the day, there are lots of different things that can help ‘motivation’ but you need to decide whether it’s worth it or if it’s what you really want, only then will it become a habit and part of your lifestyle.
